Bulk Category Cable: Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A, and Cat7 From a Supplier That Ships Same Day

Since 2001, Commodity Cables has stocked the category cable that integrators, contractors, and distributors pull every day: Cat3, Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A, Cat7, and outdoor variants in riser, plenum, and shielded builds. Registered structured cabling installations are backed by our 35-year warranty, every product page carries a downloadable spec sheet, and in-stock orders ship the same day from the closest warehouse.

Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A, and Cat7 Compared

Category Bandwidth Best For Builds We Stock
Cat3 16 MHz Voice and multi-pair backbone 25-pair and 50-pair riser
Cat5e 350 MHz 1 Gbps runs on a budget Riser, plenum, shielded, CCA
Cat6 600 MHz 1 Gbps with PoE headroom Riser, plenum, shielded, no-spline
Cat6A 600 MHz 10 Gbps, wireless access points Riser, plenum, shielded
Cat7 600 MHz 10 Gbps with maximum headroom, high-EMI environments 23 AWG 4-pair S/FTP riser and plenum
Outdoor Varies Aerial and buried runs Direct burial, gel-filled, water-block, aerial with messenger, double jacket

The Right Category Cable for the Job

Choose a cable rated for the bandwidth your network will need over the life of the building, not just what it needs on day one. Cat5e covers 1 Gbps on a budget. Cat6 is the default for most new commercial work, with tighter crosstalk control and PoE headroom. Cat6A delivers 10 Gbps for WAPs, healthcare, and data center runs. Cat7 pushes tested performance to 600 MHz with foil-shielded pairs inside an overall braid, which is what you want in high-EMI spaces and in buildings where the cabling has to stay relevant for decades. If the building will outlive the network plan, wire one category up.

Builds We Stock: Riser, Plenum, Shielded, Outdoor

We stock CMR for vertical runs, CMP for air-handling spaces, shielded for electrically noisy environments, and no-spline Cat6 for tight terminations. Outdoor builds include direct burial with gel or water-block tape, aerial with messenger, double jacket, and shielded variants across Cat5e, Cat6, and Cat6A. Cat7 is stocked as 23 AWG 4-pair S/FTP in both riser (CMR, part no. 7CMR234RX) and plenum (CMP, part no. 7CMP234RX), on 1,000 ft reels with sequential footage markings and a rip cord. Plenum and shielded configurations are on the shelf, not special-ordered.

The 35-Year Structured Cabling Warranty

Installations using our category cable, including UTP and shielded Cat7 lines, can be registered for a 35-year channel warranty through joint agreements with leading connectivity manufacturers. Register before installation. Review the warranty page for terms and conditions.

Category Cable FAQs

Can I order riser, plenum, and outdoor builds on the same purchase order?

Yes. All cable families and jacket types ship from Commodity Cables inventory on one PO.

How fast can I get a quote on a bulk category cable order?

Orders placed before 2:30 PM ET ship the same day from the nearest of 11 warehouse locations. Send part numbers and footage, and you get stock, price, and ship date in one response.

Do you stock Cat6A plenum and shielded, or is that special order?

Both are stocked. Cat6A plenum and shielded builds are on the shelf and ready to ship from our 11 US warehouses, along with the full Cat5e, Cat6, and Cat7 line.

What is Cat7 cable, and do you stock it?

Yes. Our Cat7 is 23 AWG 4-pair S/FTP tested to 600 MHz and rated for 10 Gigabit Ethernet, built to ISO/IEC 11801 Class F and stocked in riser (CMR) and plenum (CMP) on 1,000 ft reels. Every pair is foil shielded inside an overall braid, so it holds up in electrically noisy environments like manufacturing floors, elevator shafts, and dense telecom rooms.

What is the difference between Cat6A and Cat7?

Both carry 10 Gbps. Cat6A is tested to 500 MHz and comes unshielded or shielded, while Cat7 is tested to 600 MHz and is always fully shielded — foil around each pair plus a braid around the bundle. Choose Cat6A for standard 10 Gbps commercial runs and Cat7 when interference control or long-term headroom drives the spec.
