SJOOW and SOOW share the same jacket construction: service cord with oil-resistant insulation and oil-resistant jacket, weather-rated for outdoor exposure. The J in SJOOW signals junior service at 300V, covering light portable tools, pendant drops, and small equipment. Drop the J for SOOW cable and you are at 600V for motors, generators, welders, and temporary power distribution. Type W is a different class entirely: 2000V portable cord for mining, severe-duty industrial, and high-amp applications where neither 300V nor 600V cord is rated to carry the load.

If the circuit does not exceed 300V, SJOOW covers the voltage requirement. The tradeoff is jacket thickness and durability: SOOW has a heavier jacket wall, better abrasion resistance, and handles higher-amperage loads. On a clean indoor drop with minimal mechanical abuse, SJOOW saves money without issue.
